Every year on holiday web site forums you will find two or three common questions – how much is an average meal, how much is a bottle of beer and what is the exchange rate?  Most of us have saved all year for two weeks in the sun and, when money is tight, it is important to know what to expect when you arrive at your chosen resort. So how do you work out just how much spending money to take with you on holiday?

For most of us, the best formula is a ‘guestimate’ based on food – a cost that is easily predicted, drink – an outlay that may sometimes be optimistic, car or scooter hire – which can be varied according to funds, and special treats such as boat trips & excursions. Total them all up, add 10% for contingencies, divide by the number of days, and there is your budget.
Talking to holidaymakers in Roda, many British couples         
budget for around £100 per day, or possibly €1600 for a two-week stay. Being part of the EU, costs in Greece are inevitably rising as all member countries are brought into line. Because of the philosophy of self-sufficiency, it is still cheaper to live here than in many other European countries and, even though costs to bars & restaurants have escalated,

every year to a small number of people and it may be that ‘package’ costs now account for a bigger slice of the overall cost of a holiday. The truth is that seven out of ten of us actually budget for more than we spend and we return home with almost 70 per person in our pockets. In total, UK tourists return home annually with £1.78 billion of unspent money. Hopefully they saved a small part of that for their next holidays in Roda!
Package Holiday or Independent?
business owners are absorbing most of these increases into their already slender margins. 2009 saw very few increased costs in Roda and, unless the GB Pound weakens even further against the Euro, it is probably safe to budget the same amount for holidays in 2010. If your country is already a part of the Eurozone, then you will be unaffected.  

We heard a few reports last year about visitors staying for fourteen days, running out of cash after eleven. The truth is that this probably happens
